Digital tachograph rules are set by the European Union and enforced in the UK, including Northern Ireland, and they’re strict. All newly registered vehicles with a maximum authorised mass exceeding 3.5 tonnes must be fitted with a digital tachograph.
Drivers are required to use a digital tachograph card, which securely stores their driving hours, rest periods and any other work they do. As the operator, you’re responsible for fitting the correct recording equipment and making sure every driver is properly trained to use it.
