Battery-powered GPS asset tracking for unpowered trailers, plant and tools

A lot of valuable kit has no power of its own: trailers left at customer yards, containers, skips, generators, plant attachments and tool cases. A battery-powered GPS asset tracker fixes to the asset with nothing to wire, sleeps most of the time and sends its position on a schedule, so it covers the things a wired tracker cannot reach.

Nothing to wire, nothing to plug in

The TAT240 and TAT140 are self-contained asset tracker devices: each runs from its own 2200 mAh lithium thionyl chloride (Li-SOCl2) pack inside an IP68 case. Nothing connects to the asset, so they suit trailers that are never hitched to a power supply, containers, skips, generators, attachments that move between machines and secure tool stores.

A position on a schedule, not a live trail

A battery tracker lasts by sleeping. By default the TAT range sends one position every 8 hours, parked or moving, and you can set it to report more often at the cost of battery life. That is the right trade for an asset that sits still for days: you see where it is and where it has been, with no power supply. A geofence alert arrives with the next report, so set the interval by how quickly you need to know. For something you need to follow minute by minute, fit a wired tracker to the vehicle that tows or carries it.

Tamper alerts and hidden trackers

The TAT240 comes with a magnetic holder that grips steel with four neodymium magnets and knows when it is disturbed: it records when the tracker is taken out of the holder or the holder is pulled off the surface, and that event can switch the tracker to more frequent reports. The TAT140 has no holder, so it is the one to hide: inside a box trailer, behind a panel or in a vehicle as a second tracker with no wires to trace.

Which one to choose

All three are supported on the Fleetalyse tracking platform, so they sit on the same map as your vehicles. They are sold unlocked and without a SIM card, for your own IoT SIM or the Fleetalyse IoT SIM add-on.

  • TAT240: steel trailers, containers, skips and plant, with the magnetic holder and tamper detection in the box.
  • TAT140: the same tracker without the holder, for strapping, screwing or hiding where a magnet will not hold.
  • ATC700: a 71 g pocket tracker with a rechargeable 1000 mAh battery and an alarm button, for tool cases and kit that come back to base to charge.

TAT240
Magnetic holder with tamper alerts in the box: quick to fit on steel trailers, containers and plant, with no drilling or wiring.
TAT140
The same tracker on its own, for strapping, screwing or hiding: IP68, non-rechargeable Li-SOCl2 pack, one report every 8 hours by default.
ATC700
Rechargeable 1000 mAh pocket tracker for tool cases and equipment that come back to base; it needs regular charging, unlike the TAT range.
ATC774
Sealed IP68 tracker with an 8800 mAh primary battery: Teltonika rates it for up to 10 years depending on reporting, with one record every 24 hours by default. Not yet on our supported-device list; ask us before connecting it to Fleetalyse.

Questions fleets ask

How long does the battery last?

Teltonika does not publish a battery-life figure for the TAT140 or TAT240, because it depends on how often they report and how cold they get. They are built for a long battery life: a 2200 mAh lithium thionyl chloride pack with very low self-discharge, and one report every 8 hours by default. Reporting more often shortens it. The tracker sends its battery voltage, so you can plan a pack change before it runs flat.

Can I recharge it?

Not the TAT range. Its pack is non-rechargeable and is swapped when it runs down; Teltonika recommends planning a change when the reported voltage falls below 6.6 V at room temperature (6.3 V at -22 °C). If you would rather charge than swap, the ATC700 charges over USB-C, but its 1000 mAh battery needs charging far more often.

Is it a live tracker?

Not by default. To save battery it reports on a schedule rather than continuously. That suits assets that are parked for days. For live tracking of something that moves every day, use a wired tracker on the vehicle and keep the battery tracker as the backstop.

What SIM does it need?

A data SIM with 4G (LTE Cat 1) coverage: a Micro-SIM for the TAT140 and TAT240, a nano-SIM for the ATC700. 2G works as a fallback only until UK networks switch it off from 2029. The trackers are sold without a SIM, so use your own IoT SIM or add the Fleetalyse IoT SIM, a 3-in-1 multi-network data SIM that fits both sizes.
